Information products can be a business owner’s best friend.  A business owner can use them to market their business, as well as sell them in order to create new revenue.

Information products can be found in many forms, including ebooks, special reports, Mp3 recordings and more.  In this article we will discuss the differences between ebooks and special reports, what makes each of them unique, and how they can be used within your business.

An ebook is, as the name suggests, an electronic book.  There are no hard and fast rules about what any information product should be, but generally speaking, an ebook is usually more than thirty pages and can be upwards from there.

A special report is quite similar to an ebook, except that it is shorter.  Some reports are as small as three to five pages and can be as long as the author wants them to be.  Once a report has surpassed thirty pages, it is more than acceptable to call it an ebook.

Since special reports are generally shorter in length, they are usually focused on one specific subject.  Ebooks, on the other hand, have room to span a wide topic.

For example, a website that offers information on gardening may offer an ebook on how to start a flower garden, and several smaller special reports focused on growing a particular type of flower.

The price of ebooks and special reports can range greatly.  A lot of that depends on who the author is and how much respect they have built up.  Someone who is considered an expert in their field will be able to command a much higher price than others.

It is not uncommon to see them priced as low as $10, and they can go as high as $100 or more.  Generally speaking, an ebook will usually be priced somewhere between $20 and $100, and a special report will be somewhere between $5 and $20.

Some business owners use ebooks and special reports as giveaways in their marketing efforts.  They may offer one as a tease to get people to sign up for their mailing lists or as a preview for a larger ebook or coaching program, or even as a thank you to loyal customers.

You may stop and wonder if you should be giving away too much information for free.  The truth is, it is a great way to build trust and show how much knowledge you have to share.  If they see you are giving away that much information for free, your paid information must be really great!

It doesn’t matter how you choose to use them or if you choose to specialize in one type or both, ebooks and special reports can be a great asset to your business.
